Spanish architect Rafael Moneo has been declared the 2012 laureate of the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts.
The prestigious awards program aims to reward those "whose work in cinematography, theatre, dance, music, photography, painting, sculpture, architecture and other artistic manifestations constitutes an important contribution to the cultural heritage of humanity".
Rafael Moneo has won the most prestigious international award in architecture, the Pritzker Prize, in 1996.
